Fireball Run to close portion of Washington in September
Watertown -- A dispute that put Watertown's participation in the upcoming Fireball Run in jeopardy has been resolved.
Following several meetings on Thursday, city officials have agreed to close part of Washington St. on Monday September 25, the same day participants in the event will be coming to the area. The producers of the Fireball Run would like to have parts of Washington St. in the background when the contestants make their way to the city that day. However, the city had been hesitant to close a busy street on a Monday during business hours.
Officials with the Fireball Run said they would move to Sackets Harbor if an agreement is not reached. Many business owners convinced the city to play ball and close the street. They feel that the event will give the city some nationwide publicity.
