Firefighters were called to the home of a former Chief of the Felts Mills Fire Department Saturday.
It was about 4:30 p.m. when a caller to Jefferson County Dispatch reported smoke filling the residence of James Walker at 24227 Boot Jack Hill Road.
Mr. Walker was not at home when the fire ignited in the basement of the single story house. The cause is under investigation.
Ron Mack Jr., Felts Mills Assistant Fire Chief, said most of the damage from the fire was in two bedrooms.
The Felts Mills volunteers were assisted at the scene by units from Fort Drum, Great Bend, Rutland, Deferiet and Black River.
No one was injured.
