Flu season starts early in the North Country
Carthage -- It's an early start to the flu season in Jefferson County.
Public Health is reporting 47 confirmed cases of the flu in the Carthage area. Officials say reports of influenza this early in the season are unusual. As a result, public health is urging everyone 6 months of age and older to receive a yearly influenza vaccination as soon as possible. Flu shots are available at area pharmacies and many doctor's offices. Health officials say the vaccine takes about two weeks after the shot for the antibodies to provide protections against virus infection.
Other precautions are being urged including staying home when ill and washing your hands often with soap and water.
