Former Commander of the Sons of the American legion Post in Norwood charged with writing forged checks

Norwood -- St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Deputies have arrested 49 year old Sidney Belile, State Highway 56 Raymondville, after looking into a complaint of forged checks.

Following their investigation into the incident, which occurred last December, Police determined that while Belile was Commander of the Sons of the American Legion he cashed 2 checks he had forged. The first was cashed in Massena and the second in Potsdam. Belile is accused of stealing $1,240 from Sons of the American Legion Post 68 in Norwood.

Belile was charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a forged instrument and one count of Grand Larceny in the 4th degree.

He was arraigned in the Village of Potsdam Court and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on $3,000 cash bail or $6,000 bond.
