The Watertown City Council Monday night voted to hire a former local city manager to help in the search for a new manager for Watertown. Former Ogdensburg City Manager John Krol will come with a fee of $10,000. His duties will include writing up the help wanted ad for the manager's position and acting as a liaison between the council and applicants. City Mayor Jeff Graham facilitated the hiring of Krol, citing his local ties and independence from city politics. Voting against the measure were Councilmembers Jeff Smith and Joe Butler Jr. who said the council should be doing most of the work in the search. The council voted last month not to renew the contract of current city manager Mary Corriveau. Corriveau announced last week she will retire and step down April 28.
