State police have arrested a Lowville woman after a several month investigation for embezzling funds from the football organization she acted as treasurer for.

Investigators from Lowville BCI arrested 44-year-old Lisa A. Staie of West State Street, Lowville on a charge of 3rd degree Grand Larceny today. They allege that while acting as treasurer of the Lowville Pop Warner Football Association, Staie embezzled funds in an amount greater than $3,000 but less that $50,000.

The embezzlement occurred over a period from September 1st, 2001 through May 9th, 2008, according to investigators.

Staie has been under investigation since August of last year when a reimbursement check from the Greater Watertown Pop Warner League bounced. According to the Watertown Daily Times, Staie admitted to the league president that she had embezzled at least $5,000 from the organization when confronted.

Staie was arraigned in Village of Lowville Court and released on her own recognizance to await Grand Jury action.
