A fugitive from Wisconsin was captured last evening after fleeing a traffic stop earlier in Potsdam.

State Police stopped 26 year old Shamus Kimball for a seatbelt violation on Route 11B as he was on his way to work at WalMart, according to troopers.

Kimball fled on foot and was the target of an air and ground search for several hours.

About 6:30 p.m., Malone-based state police found Kimball hiding in the shower stall of his grandmother's house in St. Regis Falls.

Police say Kimball was the subject of an arrest warrant from Franklin County in 2004 and fled to Wisconsin, where he had another brush with the law.

Fleeing back to Northern New York, he was living as a fugitive until yesterday's early afternoon traffic stop.

He's in Franklin County jail without bail, facing charges including probation violation and being a fugitive from justice.

A State Police investigator said Kimball is wanted in two counties in Wisconsin.

In one county, it's for six felony counts of uttering a forgery. In the other county, it's for battery to hospital personnel, escape, resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration.
