Good news for area farms and some of their younger workers
Good news for area farms and some of their younger workers. A proposed law that would have limited youth work on farms has been scrapped. According to Congressman Bill Owens, the proposed regulation from the Department of Labor has been withdrawn. Owens contacted the Labor Department after a young constituent in Watertown wrote him with his concerns on the possible law. Many farm and ag related groups also fought against the proposed regulations. The proposal would have prevented those under the age of 16 from operating certain equipment and those under the age of 18 from being able to work in feed lots, grain bins, and stockyards.
