The death of a Gouverneur infant is one of four fatalities leading to the biggest crib recall in U.S. history.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission, Health Canada and Stork Craft are aware of four suffocations including a seven-month old in Gouverneur, the Canadian Broadcast Service reported.
In 2007, seven-month old Courtney Sue Barr suffered positional asphyxia and suffocated in her crib at her home in Rossie, according to archives of The Watertown Daily Times.
More than 2 million cribs made by British Columbia-based Stork Craft are being recalled because a drop-side that sometimes detaches, entrapping infants.
There are 15 reports of babies being entrapped but surviving.
There have been 110 documented incidents of the drop-side accidentally detaching due to broken or missing plastic parts or faulty installation.
