Albany (Nathan Lehman WTNY) -- Free air conditioners are being made available to low income New Yorkers with proven medical issues.

Governor Andrew Cuomo says the state has set aside three-million-dollars in federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program funds for this effort. In order to qualify for a free air conditioner people must fall below minimum income guidelines and have at least one household member with a chronic or acute medical condition that is aggravated by extreme heat.

People can see if they qualify by visiting mybenefits.ny.gov.
