Today will be warmest day of this recent stretch of nice days along with the warmest Thanksgiving Day since 2004 (when it was 63 degrees) as we’re expecting a high temperature right around 60°.
Enjoy it because a change in our weather will finally come Friday as a strong cold moves through the region. The weather will remain largely mild and dry through the big shopping day, Black Friday, as highs reach well into the 50s one last time. While a chance for showers is evident on the planning forecast Friday, indications are that best chance will come later in the afternoon. If you are an early Black Friday shopper, showers won’t be an issue for you.
It is back to reality for central New York this weekend as the weather is going to start to behave more like the end of November. First, it will be much colder with high temperatures Saturday and Sunday almost 25 degrees cooler than on Thanksgiving. Second, a gusty northwest breeze will set up which will make our temperatures feel even cooler. On top of all that, the colder air flowing over the warmer waters of Lake Ontario (temperatures there are still close to 50 degrees) will create plenty of lake effect snow showers Saturday. It is looking more and more like central New York will have to deal with its first accumulation of snow for the season. Even if it is a light accumulation it might slow down your travels. We’ll keep you posted on the potential snow accumulation as we get closer to the weekend.
