Roadside memorials pose a menace to motorist and pedestrian safety, says State Senator Joe Griffo.

He wants the state Department of Transportation to establish a uniform memorial marker to denote fatal accidents along state roadways.

"Often following tragic events such as fatal accidents, family and friends mark the spot with flowers and other makeshift memorials," Griffo said in a press release.
"While it is certainly understandable that this would occur, many times these displays put motorists and pedestrians at risk."

Griffo and Assemblywoman RoAnn Destito, a Democrat from Rome, have contacted DOT officials and will pursue the legislation in the coming legislative session, the Senator said.
