Griffo decries Rockefeller Drug Law repeal
Repeal of the Rockefeller-era drug sentencing laws could allow up to 8,000 drug dealers back on to the street, warns State Senator Joe Griffo.
"I'm terribly disappointed that the Senate Majority decided to hide this initiative in the State Budget," Griffo said in a press release.
He said the reform proposal should have been a separate measure that got discussed and debated.
The budget agreement reached among legislative leaders and Governor David Paterson calls for repealing mandatory drug sentences for lower-level drug offenders.
"We're opening a Pandora's Box that will allow drugs to become a greater scourge to our communities and families," Griffo said.
