House fire in Heuvelton leaves 2 people homeless

Heuvelton, NY -- Shortly before eight last night Heuvelton Fire Fighters were called to respond to a structure fire on the Newcomb Rd.. Investigators believe the fire started in the garage and then spread to other attached buildings including the home owned by Robert Gagnon. The house as well as other buildings are being called a total loss.

One firefighter was injured while battling the blaze. 
DEC spill response officials were contacted after it was learned that a fuel tank had ruptured inside the garage.

Ogdensburg and Rensselaer Falls Rescue Squads also assisted at the scene. Mutual Aid was given by Gouverneur, Dekalb, Rensselaer Falls, Richville, Morristown, Lisbon and Hermon. Morely,Oxbow, Edwards and Canton were on Stand By.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
