Gouveneur— Population of only 3,938 people according to the U.S. Census Bureau taken back in 2011. With a currently reduced unemployment percentage dropping from 8.1 percent to 7.8 percent in October, there still seems to be a large amount of people out of work.
Vice President of human resources at Kinney Drugs, Richard Mcnulty spoke with ABC50 on the job fair held at the Gouveneur Elk Lodge. Kinney Drug store has several positions available, but with only 3938 people and some of those individuals out of work. The career fair held at the Elk Lodge in Gouveneur saw an estimated 50 applicants in just a short 2 hours.
Planning on staying open until 8pm tonight, at the rate the job fair is going- Kinney Drugs will likely see close to 200 applicants pass through by the end of the evening. Mcnulty stated that there were only 8 positions available, which would make interviews and applications a competitive hiring process. Rich Mcnulty stated that, “We are looking for the absolute best for our company. Educated, experienced, and willing to grow with Kinney Drugs.” There will likely be 100’s of applicants turning out, there’s a good chance that there will be at least 8 qualified individuals within the bunch.
But, for the hundreds of applicants that take the time to apply, the competition to fight for one of the 8 positions may seem daunting. Rich Mcnulty ensures that the company wants to build their pool of applications and resumes just in case there are more jobs available in the near future.
