Army Specialist Joshua Hunter admitted killing two fellow soldiers, according to a Sheriff's investigator's deposition made public Friday.
Hunter was arraigned in Jefferson County Court on two counts of 2nd degree murder and was ordered held without bail for another appearance on Monday. A plea on not guilty was entered on his behalf.
The arraignment triggered release of a deposition by Sheriff's Investigator Scott Sterling in which the detective said Hunter admitted that he killed his two friends, Specialists Waide James and Diego Valbuena.
The bodies of the two soldiers were found in their Evans Mills apartment on Tuesday after they were reported missing.
Sterling's deposition also says that Hunter stole Valbuena's car, apparently driving it to Ohio where Hunter was apprehended on Wednesday.
It also says Hunter had cuts on his fingers consistent with being at the scene of the crime.
Hunter appeared alert and calm at his arraignment, answering questions from Judge Kim Martusewicz in a clear and firm voice.
He asked for assigned counsel, indicating he doesn't have money for an attorney.
