Jefferson County legislators have begun their annual budget talks.

The Watertown Daily Times reports this morning that the budget proposal unveiled Monday does include a tax increase for homeowners. The proposed $245 million plan increases the tax levy by $2 million. The tax rate would increase to $6.56 per $1000 of assessed value. That marks a 19 cent increase over the current tax rate.

County lawmakers will go over the proposed budget and make any changes before passing a final spending plan by mid November.
