Jobless numbers in Jefferson County on the rise
Jefferson County (WTNY) -- Double digit unemployment marked the jobless rate for the local area in the month of January.
According to the latest figures from the New York State Department of Labor, the unemployment rate for Jefferson County for the month of January was 12.3%. That's up from 11.9% unemployment that was recorded in January 2012. The jobless rate for Jefferson in December was 10.8%.
Lewis County's unemployment rate was 12.7%. Up from 12.3% a year ago.
St. Lawrence County's unemployment rate was the lowest among the three at 12.1%. That's unchanged from a year ago.
New York State's average was 9.4% for the month, up from 9.1% a year ago.
