It was the warmest Thanksgiving since 2004, as the high Thursday was 61 degrees. The warmest Thanksgiving was 66 degrees set way back in 1941. Our bout of mild weather is about to come to an end, as temperatures turn much colder for the weekend.
It shouldn’t be as cold Thursday night, as a few clouds begin to make their way into our area toward Friday morning. Also, a bit of a southwest breeze will develop. Those clouds will continue to thicken throughout the day Friday as a cold front closes in on our area from the west. A few showers will develop ahead of the front, with more numerous showers Friday evening.
It is back to reality for central New York this weekend as the weather is going to start to behave more like the end of November. First, it will be much colder with high temperatures Saturday and Sunday only in the 30s. Second, a gusty northwest breeze will set up which will make our temperatures feel even cooler. On top of all that, the colder air flowing over the warmer waters of Lake Ontario (temperatures there are still close to 50 degrees) will create plenty of lake effect snow showers Saturday. It is looking more and more like central New York will have to deal with its first accumulation of snow for the season. Even if it is a light accumulation it might slow down your travels. We’ll keep you posted on the potential snow accumulation as we get closer to the weekend.
