Leray man charged with burglary

A Town of Leray man was arrested for burglary by State police after a homeowner caught him trying to rifle through a freezer.

Troopers arrested 19-year-old Ramsey K. Towles of State Route 3, Black River on a charge of 2nd degree Burglary. According to officers, Towles entered a residence located on State Route 283 in the Town of Leray and attempted to gain entry into a freezer on the porch, causing damage to the freezer.

Towles fled the scene on foot after being observed by the owner and went into a wooded area, exiting the woods a distance from the residence where he was located by patrols.

Towles was arraigned and remanded to the Jefferson County jail in Lieu of $15,000 cash bail.
