A Lewis County man died Saturday evening after a small fire filled his home with smoke.

Fire departments from Port Leyden and Turin responded to 7357 Wildcat Road about 7 p.m. after a 911 call from the James and Charlotte Redner residence.

When firefighters got there, Mrs. Redner had already put the fire out with little or no damage to the home.

Mr. Redner was taken to Lewis County General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The cause of death is undetermined and an autopsy will be conducted.

Mrs. Redner was treated for smoke inhalation.

The investigation continues into the fire and Mr. Redner's death.

Among those on scene at the fire were Sheriff Mike Tabolt and Lewis County District Attorney Leanne Moser.
