A Lewis County man was killed when he crashed his newly-acquired moped into a utility pole on Tuesday.
State Police identify the victim is 64 year old Duane F. Ossont of Lyons Falls.
Troopers say Ossont was driving his 2008 moped on the Lyons Falls Road in Lyonsdale late Tuesday afternoon.
The machine went off the road, got its wheels caught in the sand and ran into a utility pole.
Mr. Ossont's helmet was thrown off by the force of the impact.
He was taken to Lewis County General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
Ossont had the moped only a short while and driver inexperience may have contributed to the crash, police said. -
