The Lisbon Central School teacher at the center of a sex scandal involving a 15-year-old student has now been named.
According to the Watertown Daily Times this morning, Lisbon Central School English teacher Christel C. Gravlin, 33 is under investigation by the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department for an alleged affair with a 15-year-old student. The affair came to the attention of authorities after the boy’s mother filed a complaint. The alleged incidents did not take place on school grounds.
Investigator Gus Burns confirmed Thursday to NewsWatch50 that an investigation involving Lisbon Central was ongoing and said school officials are cooperating fully. He refused to divulge the nature of the investigation, but sources in the community confirmed that the alleged incident involved a relationship between a female teacher and 15-year-old male student. The alleged relationship went on for several weeks, according to the Times report.
Gravlin has not been at school this week. The school has declined to comment, citing privacy of personnel issues.
Gravlin, a married mother of two is a former beauty queen, having been chosen Miss St. Lawrence County Teen-Ager in 1990 at the age of 15 and was voted St. Lawrence County Dairy Princess the following year. She graduated summa cum laude from SUNY Potsdam in 2003 with a degree in literature, writing, and secondary education.
