Civic leader and long time Dexter Mayor Donald "Dutch" Grant passed away Friday at the age of 89.
Grant was the mayor of Dexter for more than 40 years, starting in 1966. He served as superintendent of the General Brown school district for more than 20 years.
He was also a long time member of the Thousand Islands Bridge authority, including many years as its chairman.
The Chaumont native served as an infantry officer in World War II after a successful college athletic career.
Grant's funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. Calling hours at Tuesday and Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home in Dexter.
State Senator Darrel Aubertine issued a statement.

Dutch was an icon in public service in Jefferson County. As a school teacher and in public office he had a positive impact on so many people's lives. He will be missed," Aubertine said.
