A new storm system coming out of the middle of the country will impact the Northeast to start the weekend. However, this doesn’t look to be a repeat performance of our midweek snow storm. This storm, located over Louisiana Friday evening, is forecast to move northeast and eventually off the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast Coast Saturday night. This storm is forecast to move farther southeast than the storm that impacted the region earlier in the week. Also, this storm is forecast to be weaker. Still, we expect enough snow to shovel, perhaps even snow blow…probably in the 2-5” range by midnight Sunday (late Saturday night).
It should be noted, if you’re headed to NYC for the Pinstripe Bowl, accumulating snow is likely there as well Saturday, also on the order of 2-5”.
Colder air will work into Central New York for Sunday as the storm departs off the East Coast. The colder air (along with northwesterly winds) will likely trigger lake effect snow showers, though at this time significant snowfall is not anticipated.
Looking ahead toward the end of 2012 and start of 2013, snow showers are in the forecast as an arctic cold front looks to move into the region. Were this to materialize, then a shot of cold air would be here by New Year’s Day as well as the threat for lake effect snow showers.
