An area of rain will approach tonight from the southwest and graze us with wet weather after midnight. The bulk of that rain will move out of our area by sunrise Saturday, with just a few lingering showers through the first part of the day.
Low pressure moving east through the Great Lakes will be over western Lake Ontario midday Saturday. This will mean primarily a south wind over central New York through the first half of the day. This should get temperatures up to near 50. As that low momves into the St. Lawrence Valley, it will drag a cold front eastward through CNY. South winds will shift into the northwest late Saturday, and temperatures will begin to drop.
Temperatures aloft will become just cool enough over Lake Ontario, so that a few snow showers are possible Saturday night southeast of Lake Ontario. Otherwise, an area of dry high pressure will build in from the north, supplying our area with a mainly dry and cooler Sunday.
Later Sunday, clouds will begin to thicken from the south and west, with rain right on our western doorstep. We expect most of Sunday to be dry, but a few late-day showers are possible.
Steady rains are likely Sunday night and Monday, as another area of low pressure moves into the Great Lakes. This system is moving a bit faster than earlier thought, which will mean temperatures won’t get as warm as originally thought Monday, the rain won’t be as heavy, and fortunately, winds won’t be quite as strong. We’ll have more on that through the weekend.
