The new Watertown Veterans Administration outpatient clinic will start seeing patients on Monday.

The facility in the C.A.N.I. building on outer Washington Street replaces the former one in Carthage.

The contract for the clinic was taken from Carthage Area Hospital and given to Valor Healthcare, which operates a number of V.A. clinics at other locations across the country.

Despite an out-of-town operator, veterans will see some familiar faces at the new location, said Karen Aubertine, R-N Clinical Administrator.

"I know all of our gals are local, our nurses. We actually have the gal that was at the desk over to Carthage, so she will be greeting them and signing them in," Aubertine said.

Dr. Richard Matarese is the Medical Director and the clinic is contracting its radiology services to North Country Radiology next door, she said.

The clinic staff are looking forward to seeing their first veteran patients, Ms. Aubertine said.

"We want the opportunity to be able to honor them and take care of them the way they would like to be taken care of," Aubertine said.
