The deadline's been extended for potential Democratic candidates for Congress to send their resume to Democratic leaders.

A press release from Democratic County chairs in the 23rd district says there's been "overwhelming interest" among potential candidates.

So, the deadline to send resume and letter of interest has been pushed back to 5 p.m. Thursday, July 23rd.

The one-time extension was approved in a meeting in Alexandria Bay on July 17th.

Interested candidates must email their materials to Sue Montgomery Corey, Essex County Democratic Committee at suemc@capital.net.

Governor David Paterson is expected to call a special election to replace Rep. John McHugh if McHugh steps down when he's confirmed as the new Secretary of the Army.
