Watertown (WWTI/WSYR)-- Many North Country school districts canceled classes for the day today as mother nature gets ready to drop up to a foot of snow.

A light snowfall started overnight but as low pressure moving in from the Midwest advances through the day, our snow should increase. The steadiest and heaviest snow should come late in the afternoon and early evening Friday. Any afternoon and evening travels may be slow going on snow covered roads. By the time the snow tapers off later Friday night and early Saturday morning, most of the area will have 4-8” of new snow.

In the wake of all of this it will be windy and cold Saturday.  The air will be drying out quickly and with high pressure building into the area, any lake effect response will be limited to flurries, mainly Saturday morning.

While we deal with a manageable snowfall here, a bigger storm forming off the New England coast Friday will cause blizzard conditions from New York City to Boston.
