State Police and other police agencies will be in heightened lookout for intoxicated boaters this weekend, police say.

Operation Dry Water is a national initiative with participation on the state and local level.

Boating While Intoxicated laws are similar to DWI laws in New York State, with .08 percent blood alcohol content as the threshold for charges.

Just as with a DWI, penalties can include fines, imprisonment and loss of driving privileges.

Among participating agencies in this region are State Police, NYS Park Police, DEC Police, the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA), the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Oneida, Oswego & Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office. More information is available at www.operationdrywater.org
