Overturned kayak turns out to be false alarm for responders

The sighting of an overturned kayak in Lewis County just after noon on Thanksgiving turned out to be a false alarm.

According to the Lewis County Sheriff's department, a report of an overturned kayak in the Oswegatchie River off the Steam Mill Road in the Town of Diana came in at around 12:18 pm. The Croghan Volunteer Fire Department Cold Water Rescue Team, Lewis County Sheriff's Dive TEam, Harrisville Fire Department, State police, State Forest Rangers, and Lewis County Sheriff's department personnel all responded to the scene.

After investigation the owner of the kayak was located and it was determined that no one was in the water.

The owner of the kayak was listed as being from Hilton, New York.
