Watertown— Petco is opening up their adoption center this weekend- Saturday and Sunday. ABC50 spoke with Petco General Manager Heather Roux who stated that Petco has invested in building an adoption center on the behalf of the SPCA.

The SPCA does not have enough finances to cover the adoption center, however the SPCA has gone ahead and built an adoption center. The adoption center is large enough to house: dogs, cats, and even rodents such as pet rats, chinchillas and more.

In just two short weeks, the adoption center will be open, displaying animals that are available for the entire family. Ms. Roux explained the challenges and benefits of having this Petco so close to Fort Drum:

“One of the biggest opportunities in this area is having the military close by. We do see a high number of drop offs because they are frequently moved from state to state. It is hard to travel and transport these animals. The great thing about the adoption center is that it is going to give us that much more room. So, if people do feel the need to drop off their dog, cat or small animal that they won’t be able to accommodate when moving. The center will be able to find them a forever home.”

The adoption center will be open through out this weekend. Families with animals can bring their pets to interact with potentially new adopted animals and more.
