A Jefferson County woman has been convicted of perjury in a federal tax evasion case involving her father.

Federal authorities say 40 year old Jewell (Kidder) Gilbert lied under oath while testifying to a grand jury about whether he father had deposited business checks into his personal bank account.

Her father, 66 year old Richard Murtaugh of Central Square was also convicted, on two counts of tax evasion and four counts of false income tax returns.

Authorities say Murtaugh didn't declare more than $300,000 in income from scrap metal sales at his scrap metal yards in Fulton and Rome, and his commercial property in Pierrepont Manor and West Monroe.

Also convicted of perjury was 54 year old Kaye Mason of Mexico, for falsely testifying that she didn't know if Murtaugh ever made bank deposits, according to authorities.

All three are scheduled to be sentenced on June 23.
