Malone -- State Police are investigating a fatal Motor Vehicle/ATV accident that occurred at around 6:00pm Wednesday at the intersection of State Route 30 and County Route 28 in the town of Malone.
Troopers say an ATV, operated by 16 year old William Derochie II, of Malone, was traveling with an uninvolved dirt bike west on County Route 28 at the intersection of State Route 30. Derochie failed to stop at the intersection and pulled into the path of a vehicle traveling south on State Route 30, operated by Trina Lewis, 35, of Constable. Lewis was unable to avoid Derochie and struck the ATV, causing Derochie to be ejected.
A back seat passenger in the Durango was transported by Malone Rescue to Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone where he was treated and released for minor injuries.
Franklin County Coroner Brian T. Langdon responded to the scene and pronounced Derochie deceased and authorized his transport to Alice Hyde Medical Center for an autopsy. The accident remains under investigation by the New York State Police in Malone and the Troop B Collision Reconstruction Unit.
