Police investigate fatal car accident in Theresa

Theresa -- The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal accident that occurred Thursday night shortly after 7pm on State Route 37 in the Town of Theresa.

According to the Sheriff's report, 46 year old Mark Hujar of Hammond was traveling north when he attempted to pass a vehicle. While attempting to pass the other vehicle Hujar collided head on with a car being driven by Michael Homan. A passenger in the Homan car, 53 year old Robin Broughan of Redwood, was pronounced dead at Samaritan medical Center. Michael Homan was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. No word yet on his condition.

Hujar was issued traffic tickets for unsafe passing and failure to keep right. Police say other charges are pending and the investigation is on going.
