A Port Leyden man was injured in a logging accident this afternoon in Oneida County.

According to State police, at approximately 3:18 pm Oneida County 911 received a call of a logging accident in the woods off of State Route 365 in the Town of Trenton. Matthew J. Farr of Port Leyden was operating a Franklin Tree Farmer C6D skidder on a skid road approximately a quarter mile north of State Route 365.

While attempting to round a corner with a hitch of hardwood logs, the right wheels of the skidder dropped off a steep embankment, causing the skidder to tip and eject Farr. The skidder then rolled over on top of Farr, coming to rest upright with Farr beside it.

Farr was able to call 911 from his cell phone. Fire personnel removed Farr from the woods and he was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for treatment.
