A power outage blamed on a raccoon was affecting a wide area of Lewis County Monday morning.
The raccoon came into contact with a breaker at the Lowville substation, according to a National Grid spokeswoman.
Initially, 6,200 customers were left without power shortly after 8 a.m. By 9:30 a.m., 1,800 had been restored and the company was conducting final testing on its transformer.
Complete restoration should take place in no more than two hours, the spokeswoman said.
The outage was affecting homes and businesses in Castorland, Copenhagen, Croghan, Denmark, Greig, Harrisburg, Leyden, Lowville, Lyonsdale, Martinsburg, Montague, New Bremen, Pinckney, Port Leyden, Turin and Watson.
