Meteorologist Dave Longley (WSYR) -- Get out and enjoy your Monday, as things will be much different by the time you head out the door Tomorrow morning.
There are two weather "players" at hand which will join forces to produce a widespread soaking rain Tuesday. A surge of tropical moisture shooting northward from the Gulf of Mexico will arrive by sunrise Tuesday. You will need the umbrella as you head out the door Tomorrow morning.
The second weather player is a cold front dropping southeastward through the Midwest. The air behind this cold front is quite cool, with afternoon highs in the 40s Monday afternoon over the Northern Plains. We'll feel some of the cooler air here Wednesday, but more importantly, as the front slams into the moist atmosphere over us Tuesday, rainfall will get heavier Tuesday afternoon. Rainfall totals could approach an inch in the more persistent rains and thunderstorms. That is not enough to cause flooding, but a good drink of water is on the way.
Temperatures will rise into the low 70s Tuesday afternoon, with brisk south winds, and with a shift to the west Wednesday, and the arrival of the cooler air, temperatures will be a good 10 degrees cooler.
