President Obama is nearing a decision to send 30,000 additional soldiers to Afghanistan, including some from Fort Drum's 10th Mountain Division, according to a newspaper report.

McClatchy Newspapers quoted anonymous administration sources, saying the move won't become official until after Obama consults with key allies and completes an Asian trip later this month.

The 30,000 soldiers, according to the report, would include three Army Brigades from Forts Campbell and Drum, plus a Marine brigade, for a total of 23,000.

There would also be a new Division Headquarters totaling 7,000 soldiers.

The first deployment would happen around March, 2010, with additional deployments staggered every three months, meaning the 30,000 figure wouldn't be reached until near the end of 2010, according to the report.
