State police arrested a Rensselaer Falls man over the weekend for allegedly shooting a neighbor's dog.

Troopers arrested 36-year-old John S. Harrison, 36 of Mayhew Road on a charge of felony Aggravated Cruelty to Animals. They allege Harrison used an M14-308 sniper rifle to shoot the shepherd-Labrador mix belonging to Roberta McKane. Harrison reportedly shot the animal Saturday afternoon in its side while the dog was in a nearby field.

Harrison had allegedly threatened to kill the dog a few days earlier, according to troopers.

A veterinarian said the dog wasn't expected to live. Harrison will answer the charge in DePeyster Town Court.
