New York (WSYR-TV) – The Syracuse University men’s basketball team will get its third chance against rival Georgetown tonight at Madison Square Garden.
After losing twice to the Hoyas during the regular season, SU will have a chance to take a measure of payback tonight in the semifinal round of the Big East Conference Tournament.
In their final meeting in the Carrier Dome as regular-season Big East Conference opponents, the Hoyas snapped SU’s home-winning streak. Otto Porter led Georgetown with a career-high 33 points in the
57-46 win.
Then, in their final game of the regular season,
Georgetown throttled the Orange 61-39 in Washington, DC.
SU enters the Friday night clash seeded No. 5 in the conference tournament. Georgetown earned the tournament’s top seed.
The Orange, ranked No. 19 in the Associated Press poll and No. 20 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll, advanced by holding off a Pittsburgh rally to win 62-59 in the quarterfinal round.
Georgetown, ranked fifth in both major polls, beat Cincinnati 62-43 in their quarterfinal matchup.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
