The health care reform bill approved by a Senate committee Tuesday fails on several key points, say congressional candidates Dede Scozzafava and Doug Hoffman.
Scozzafava said the bill approved by the Finance committee doesn't include most of the fundamental reforms she's been calling for.
Hoffman said the bill is not reform at all since it doesn't include tort reform.
And to make matters worse, the bill slashes $400 billion from Medicare, Scozzafava added.
Both candidates sent out press releases with their views on the Senate bill.
"Any meaningful health care reform must reduce costs by expanding competition across state lines and by implementing much needed tort reform to curb the frivolous lawsuits that have been driving up costs on the entire system." Scozzafava said.
"This legislation is not about health care reform. It is simply about loading down the taxpayers with more debt and more costs," Hoffman said.
Scozzafava is the Republican candidate in the special election for the 23rd congressional seat vacated by John McHugh. Hoffman is the Conservative party candidate.
Officials of the Bill Owens campaign weren't immediately available for comment about the bill.
