Kingston— Michael Kinnie, owner of Lake Ontario Playhouse in Sackets Harbor, decided to make a short film for fun using his 11-month-old daughter as the main character.

A creative individual who holds an MFA in dramatic writing, Mr. Kinnie decided to explore the concept of shooting a short on his iPhone 4. “I don’t even have an iPhone 5 and still was able to do it” said Kinnie, “the iPhone 5 is high definition, but either way you are limited to shooting on an iPhone.” However, Kinnie enjoyed the challenge and the simple ease of whipping out his iPhone and filming on the fly.

Mr. Kinnie’s 6-minute short, “Undercover Em” was not only completely shot on his iPhone 4, but it was all done on a zero-budget. “Undercover Em” is a short comedy about a secret agent who goes undercover as an infant, to figure out why her American parents moved to Kingston, Ontario.

A first-timer to film festivals, Kinnie decided to enter “Undercover Em” in the Kingston Film Festival, completely ecstatic to find out that his no-budget iPhone short was accepted. “Undercover Em” will be showing at the Kingston Film Festival this Friday, March 1st at 7 p.m.
