A Fort Drum soldier, charged in late April with criminal mischief, assault and drug possession is now accused of stealing expensive jewelry.

Watertown police arrested Christopher D. Simmons Jr., 21, at the PSB Tuesday evening on a charge of Grand Larceny 2nd Degree.

Investigators allege Simmons stole two rings and a cell phone from the home of James G. Schell on North Hamilton Street on April 26th, the same night he was arrested on the assault, drug and mischief charges.

The total value of the items taken from the Schell residence is estimated at $4600.

Simmons was arraigned in City of Watertown Court this morning on the larceny charge and released on his own recognizance.

The assault charge against Simmons resulted when a Watertown police officer was bitten on a finger while struggling with the soldier in the parking lot of the Wendy’s restaurant on State Street during the April arrest.
