Watertown— It is that time of year, when staying indoors may sound cozy. However, some Watertown folks are bundling up and heading for Thompson Park with their snow sleds.

For those that do not prefer to explore Thompson Park’s cross-country ski trails, snow sledding is a fun alternative. Dozens of snow sledding fans made it to Thompson Park, some who have been going habitually for years while others have just begun the tradition.

The Arnott family decided to settle in Watertown, New York for the small town feel. Having just retired from the military, the family now enjoys the simple pleasures and loves various outdoor activities, which come with the four seasons. Mr. Arnott told ABC50, “We really wanted to live somewhere that had the four seasons. Some people don’t like the snow, but we prefer it.”

The Arnott family has been snow sledding for 2 years now and considers the sport their new family tradition. Snow sledding at Thompson Park is free and is one way local North Country folks are spending their free time. The sport being popular with kids, many families made it out with their sleds and their children, most of which are on winter break.

Thompson Park is open 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. year round, however for safety purposes, those snow sledding should consider sledding during the daylight hours.
