Our snowstorm from last night and earlier today is heading off the New England coast this evening. The steady, accumulating snow may be done, but a persistent northwesterly flow and moist lower atmosphere will guarantee we continue to see light precipitation through the night and into tomorrow. Because the lower atmosphere is not all that cold, it is tough to get ice crystals to form so some spotty freezing drizzle is likely which could give a light coating of ice to exposed surfaces.
Our weather quiets down on Friday but then we watch a new area of low pressure heading toward the East Coast. Your may have heard dire predictions about this ‘storm’ but as we have mentioned for the last few days in this discussion, it looks like it will be weaker and farther east that the storm that moved through last night. As a result, we expect a period of lighter snow to move across central New York on Saturday.
Behind Saturday’s system northwesterly winds will start to bring colder air back into central New York for Sunday..
