St. Regis Mohawk chief named Clarkson trustee

A St. Regis Mohawk tribal chief has been elected to the board of trustees of Clarkson University.

He's James Ransom, a 1988 graduate of Clarkson with a degree in civil engineering.

Ransom will serve on the academic affairs and student affairs committees.

He's in his third term as a chief of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe and has worked for the Tribe and the Akwesasne community in various capacities for 28 years.

He has extensive experience in environmental issues and helped start the Tribe's environmental program.

Ransom and his wife, Karla, live in Akwesasne and have two adult children, Beynan and Kyrie.
