Star Lake man charged with arson after vehicle fire

St. Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a Star Lake man for allegedly setting fire to his truck in an attempt to make it look like an electrical malfunction destroyed the vehicle.

Deputies arrested 31-year-old Charles A. Allen of Benson Mines Golf Course Road on a charge of 3rd degree Arson. They allege that while driving on the River Road in the Town of Clifton on march 10th, Allen used a torch to set fire to the electrical box on his Ford F-150 pickup in an attempt to make the fire look like an electrical malfunction. Allen then called 9-1-1 from his cellphone to report the fire.

Allen was arraigned in Town of Clifton Court and sent to the St. Lawrence COunty Jail in lieu of $1,500 bail.

Detectives were assisted by the St. Lawrence County Arson Investigators Team.

Allen plead guilty in 2005 to attempted rape involving a 16-year-old girl in the Town of Fine in 2004, according to the archives of the Watertown Daily Times.
