A St. Lawrence County woman has been arrested on a felony charge after an investigation revealed that she was abusing and neglecting her elderly father.
The St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Mary J. McBroom, 33, of 933 Oswegatchie Trail in Star Lake, and charged her with Endangering the Welfare of a Vulnerable Elderly Person, a class E Felony.
The arrest stems from an investigation into alleged abuse and neglect of 94-year-old Floyd R. McBroom Sr., Mary’s father.
On January 26th, St. Lawrence County Adult Protective Services were requested to do a home evaluation of the McBroom residence. At the insistence of Dr. Snicer, of the protective services agency, Mr. McBroom was taken to Clifton Fine Hospital and transferred to Upstate Medical Center.
Mr. McBroom was treated for three and a half weeks, due to injuries associated with neglect and abuse. Following his treatment, Mr. McBroom was released from the hospital and placed with another family member.
Mr. McBroom passed away on April 30th. His death was not a result of the injuries sustained during the January 26th report.
On May 22nd Mary McBroom will answer to the felony charge of Endangering the Welfare of a Vulnerable Elderly Person.
