The Village of Deferiet has declared a State of Emergency due to a water shortage.

A water conservation notice that was posted earlier in the week has now been upgraded. The village water system can no longer maintain the current demand from residents.

The village board has prohibited all outside water usage, including:

  • Watering lawns and gardens
  • Washing vehicles
  • Filling pools
  • Or any other action utilizing an outside water spigot

Residents are also being urged to use water sparingly inside of the home as well.

Water well #2 has been taken offline due to mechanical failure and can not being replaced as quickly as required to meet the needs of residents. The well is not expected to be fixed for up to 10 days.

The village is currently utilizing and pumping water from well #1, which is not supplying enough water pressure to fill the village water tower.

Residents do not need to boil their water at this time. Tests are being conducted daily and reported to the Department of Health.

The Village of Deferiet is asking all residents to report anyone abusing water use outside of their homes by contacting the Village Office at 315-493-2707.
